In the 30s a wine specialist visits the the area and gives a speech in order to motivate the wine producers of Amyndeo to create a winery, making an example out of the share wineries of Crete. The people realized that they could create a "Wine Producers Association".

In the year 1954 the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Amyndeo is being founded. In 1959 the Winery of the Union is being founded, one of the main activities of the Union. Next year, in 1961, the first red wine is produced, and after succesful tests enters the local market and remains in the history. Next year (1961) the market succeeds in expanding outside the borders of Amyndeo.

Since 1965, that resinated wine (retsina) has become popular in our country, the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives decides to participate in the production procedure with satisfying results.

The winery aims at the promotion of an underdeveloped area, which was founded after long searching by its owner Yianni Boutari. Nowadays, Amyndeo, a traditional but neglected vinicultural area, has become one of the most promising vinicultural regions in Greece. The area is characterized by a special microclimate, ideal for high expectation wines, due to the high altitude and the existance of four lakes, which surround the vineyard zone.

Yiannis Boutaris founded the Kyr- Yianni company in 1997. In the two main areas of Naoussa and Amyndeo, on the two sides of mountain Vermio in northwestern Greece, the winery continues a long family tradition, focusing on the production of special, high quality wines, which combine authenticity and character and are an attractive suggestion for the modern consumer.

... Makis Mavridis have created the Alpha Estate (Ktima Alpha), vineyard and winery. After a long and hard effort to buy the land, plant it and build the winery, today its owners, the winemaker and the grape grower can proudly admire their work.

The sole vineyard of 400 acres that surrounds the winery is every wineproducers' dream. It makes the quality running of the cultivation and the production possible and allows the product, namely the grape, to arrive at the production unit under the best conditions. The vines are situated on a plateau at an altitude of 600- 700 m, facing the colourful lake Vegoritida, which has no pebbles at its banks, but millions of small shells!

Yiannis Chatzis, a chemical engineer, after serving in the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives wineries of Amyndeo and "Vegoritis", moved on to the founding of his own winery, in the summer of 2000.

... ripes in french and american oak barrels for about 12 months before bottling. Its intense red colour, combined with complex notes of wild berries and spices, gives a sooth, pleasant flavour. This delicious wine goes well with grilled meat, cheese varieties and red sauce pasta.
